About Shihan (師範) David Gagnon
David has been involved with the martial arts for 40 years as a practitioner and instructor with over ten years spent living & training in Japan.
In 1997, David earned his Permanent U.S. Residency and eventual citizenship by demonstrating Extraordinary Abilities in Martial Arts here in the USA.
Having lived and worked in Canada, San Francisco, Japan, and Los Angeles, David has taught students of all ages and abilities, including: adults, kids, law enforcement, security officers, stage combat performers, Hollywood stunt men, women’s self protection classes & special needs adults & children.
He now resides in Osaka Japan, where he continues teaching.
Japan classes are taught directly by David so every student regardless of level gets the same high quality instruction. Bi-Weekly training sessions are held here in the U.S. via Skype at the Nevada City Dojo. Read some testimonials here about David.

I started my martial arts journey around the age of 6 years old, and in that 20+ years time, I have trained in various traditional and competitive martial arts. Having experience training both kids and adults, I hope to bring my martial and real world experience into a fun, detailed, training environment.

I've been practicing various martial arts since 1990, for both competition and self-defence. I have taught kids classes, and my son is on his way to being an instructor himself. I believe martial arts is a true exercise of mind, body, and spirit. Of self mastery. That's what I hope to teach.

Muhai Martial arts is my first experience in this field. I came with absolutely no background and was worried I wouldn't fit in or understand it. Muhai taught me anyone can join at any level and still learn valuable lessons. My experience has transferred to my everyday life, whether it be in the forest firefighting or out and about in town. I am a more aware person and feel safer everywhere I go, knowing I have my Martial Arts skills with me.
